Sato International Scholarship Foundation Rules and Requirements (Revised as of August 5, 2009)
Article 1 Purpose Recipients of the Sato International Scholarship Foundation (hereinafter referred to as “the Foundation”) shall abide by the following rules and requirements.
Article 2 Categories of scholarship recipients Categories of scholarship recipients are as follows: (1) | Self-supporting students | | The Foundation grants scholarship for self-funded students from ASEAN countries as well as Southwest Asian countries enrolled in a Japanese university. The student must hold the nationality of the said country. | (2) | Short-term students | | The Foundation grants scholarship for self-funded students from ASEAN countries as well as Southwest Asian countries, enrolled in a Japanese university on the basis of the inter-university exchange agreement. The student must hold the nationality of the said country. | (3) | Overseas study students | | | This scholarship is provided to Japanese students enrolled in a Japanese university who wish to study at universities overseas on the basis of the inter-university exchange agreement |
Article 3 Regulations A scholarship recipient must be diligent in one’s studies and research, be an exemplary model for other students. He or she must also observe moral standards and show respect to the common practices of the people in the area where the recipient resides.
Article 4 Cultural Exchange A scholarship recipient shall foster cultural exchanges with other students and people in the local community where the recipient belongs. He or she must attend events held by the Foundation in a bid to promote relationship among scholarship students. In case of the scholarship recipient is unable to attend an event for reasons beyond the recipient’s control such as exams, the recipient must submit a notice to this effect in the designated form to the Foundation’s office in advance.
Article 5 Submission of Report A scholarship recipient must stay in close contact with the Foundation office and submit a monthly report as required by the Foundation.
Article 6 Prohibition of More than One Scholarship A scholarship recipient must not be receiving other scholarship or financial support from any other organization. However, a recipient may receive such measures as exemption of academic fees if granted.
Article 7 Leaving the Country 1. | The place of studies or researches of a “Self-supporting student” must be Japan. If a scholarship recipient goes to a third country or if the recipient returns home temporarily he or she must submit a written request in the designated form to the Foundation’s office. In such cases, the maximum period allowed by the foundation is as follows: | | | (1) | Visits for research purposes | a maximum of 90 days | (2) | Visits for the other reasons | a maximum of 45 days |
| 2. | The place of studies or researches of a “Short-term student” must be Japan. As a general rule, the recipient shall not return to his or her home country during the entire period of scholarship; however if a written request is submitted in the designated form and is accepted by the Foundation’s office, the recipient may travel to neighboring countries for the objective of enhancing his or her knowledge. | 3. | The place of studies or researches of an “Overseas study student” must be in the same country as that of the university that he or she is sent to. As a general rule, the recipient shall not return to Japan during the entire period of scholarship; however if a written request is submitted in the designated form and is accepted by the Foundation’s office, the recipient may travel to neighboring countries for the objective of enhancing his or her knowledge. |
Article 8 Loss of Scholarship Award If a scholarship recipient does not keep with the rules and conditions as set forth by the Foundation in Articles 1 to 7 and/or if the recipient applies to one of the conditions mentioned below, the scholarship can be forfeited. Or, if there is serious misconduct either intentionally or negligently by the recipient, he or she shall be requested to return the scholarship fund. | | (1) | In the event that the recipient is unable to continue studies or research activities due to illness or other reasons | (2) | In the event that a recipient is disqualified from studies or researches by his or her academic advisor | (3) | In the event that a recipient’s academic performance is not satisfactory | (4) | In the event that a recipient takes leave of absence (with the exception of child-birth or child-care) or transfers to a different institution | (5) | In the event that a recipient displays moral laxity | (6) | In the event that a recipient brings disgrace on the Foundation in any way |
